Flu/Cold Season Health Tips
Ben Mann, PAC with flu/cold season health tips to stay healthy this Fall and Winter.
Hi, my name is Ben Mann. I am a physician assistant with 16 years of experience and am one of the new providers here at North Star Medical Group. I’m here today as we’re entering the cold and flu season. And as kids go back to school, all the kids begin to mix their germs and their nastiness together and they get colds and RSV and strep throat and all these different things.
And as adults, they bring it home to us as well. So it’s important, as we get ready for the cold and flu season, to take care of ourselves. And there’s really three areas that you can focus on to try to help yourself. Number one, to keep from getting it, or number two, if you do get sick, to be healed as quickly as possible.
Metabolism and Exercise

And those things really have to do with your metabolism, prevention and the treatment. Metabolism is just a fancy way of saying that you’re at a healthy weight and that your body systems are working functionally. We know from the past and people who were infected with viruses. Those people whose BMIs are greater than 30 carried a few more pounds than they carried in high school that they were more susceptible to severe illness from viruses.
We know that people who exercise had a decreased risk of severity of disease or viruses. So therefore, exercise and a healthy weight are keys to doing all you can to ensure that your health status is important.
Flu-Cold Season Health Tips Prevention Diet and Supplements
Second is prevention. There are things that we can do to help prevent diseases because it is the water we swim in. You really can’t avoid being exposed to viruses and bacterial agents. You can only really try to prevent them and do those things. It can be as simple as hand washing, eating healthy diets, unprocessed food, which they’ve done study after study is very detrimental to us even increasing the risk of cancer.
So therefore, taking the things which boost your immune system there are different. Nutritional foods and nutritional supplements that can increase and boost your body’s immune system. And those things can be beneficial for you. And then in addition, if you are sick and you do catch a cold, if you do contract the viral infection, there are ways to treat it.
Both those that are FDA approved and then in the world of medicine, there’s those things which are off label and those or you are able to use those in this day and time, has been approved not only by the FDA, but it’s been recently validated in some studies. So we’re not without hope in this time.
Where viruses seem to run the world, there’s a lot of things you can do and take a proactive approach to it. So please see your local provider or come in to see us and we can have further discussions. I look forward to meeting you in person one day.
Until then, “We Treat, He Heals.”
